The burrowing owl photo was taken by Jean Legge on June 22, 2002 in the Little Missouri National Grasslands, McKenzie County, ND by Horse Creek. Scroll down to see the burrowing owl. In the area were also badgers, willets, a golden eagle carrying off a prairie dog, and lots of Baird's sparrows. The distance to the owl and prairie dog town was approximately quarter of a mile away for the photo, taken with a spotting scope and digital camera.
